Ysora Castillo learned how to play baseball from her father, Argelio del Castillo. After playing third base for the Habaneras at age 15, she made her way up the levels of amateur baseball in Cuba until making the Cuban National Women's Team in 1948. The national team, known as the Cubanas, traveled to Venezuela in the winter of 1948, and a few AAGPBL players played with them. Between January and March 1949, she and a few other Cuban players joined some AAGPBL players and they were combined into two teams that toured Central and northern South American countries. The two teams were identified as the Cubanas and Americanas. During this tour, her skills were noticed by the AAGPBL coaches and this led to her being able to make the jump to playing for one of the two AA League developmental traveling teams, the Chicago Colleens, in 1949. She played the next couple of years in the AAGPBL for Kalamazoo and Kenosha before marrying Raymundo Kinney. After baseball, she worked in electronics for 40 years and became a volunteer at a hospital.
