Jaynie Krick was a free spirit with a wild, mean fastball. She recorded 17 wild pitches over 315 innings of work and once hit All-American superstar, Connie Wisniewski, a record four times in a game! The real kicker was that she was traded from South Bend to Grand Rapids, where Wiesniewski played, the next day! When her control was decent, she could be "effectively wild," which led to her best pitching year in 1952. That year she managed a solid 2.69 ERA, "only" walked 48 in comparison to 38 strikeouts, with no wild pitches, in a career high 117 innings. Besides being a scary pitcher to face, her value to her team was her versatility as an infielder as she occasionally played short stop, or second or third base.
Her post-playing days were just as eventful! She was an executive for Motorola, owned a gas station in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, and was a school security guard. She spent most of her retirement years in Arlington, Texas, often attending events with other athletes and talking about her life and baseball experiences with children.
