When this Daisiy played leftfield she had plenty of fans in the bleachers in Ft. Wayne. Her nickname came from her ability to down immense quanities of food, "Chow"! Helene was known for the long ball and she was considered the Babe Ruth of the Daisies. She was an expert in horsemanship and played basketball and tennis in the off-season.
In 1949, Helene played in Chicago's National Girls Baseball League for the Admiral Music Maids. The NGBL was a professional softball league.

Helene “Chow” Machado Van Sant, passed away February. 13, 2018 according to her son. He also relayed that a celebration of Helene’s life was held at the Carriage House in Prospect Park near Redlands, CA on March 10, 2019.
Helene played outfield for the 1946 Peoria Redwings and the 1947 Fort Wayne Daisies.
