"Corky" was a dynamic ball player. Always a threat at the plate, she was even more spectacular when on base, electrifying crowds with her daring base running. She had a strong arm and a sure glove, was an outstanding short stop, and always had a smile for everyone. Hard to shake, a sure player and a great lady.
Marilyn "Corky" Olinger, age 78, of Centerville, OH passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2006 at Bethany Village. Corky played shortstop for the Grand Rapids Chicks of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1948-1953, having a career batting average of .220 over the course of 599 games.. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Maude Olinger and her sister. She is survived by her half-sister; a dear friend; and other special friends. A special thanks for loving care given by Cascade Nurses & Aides of Bethany Village. If desired, donations in Corky's memory may be given to Hospice of Dayton or to the Bethany Village Benevolent Fund, 6430 Inner Mission Way, Centerville, OH 45459. A funeral service was held THURSDAY, JULY 6th at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 3940 Kettering Blvd., Dayton, OH. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery near Columbus, OH. July 7.
