Esther’s last name was Gamberdella, but she adopted her stepfather's last name, Morrison, when signing into the league because she thought that her Italian last name could be too tough to spell or pronounce for some folks. Unfortunately, in 1950, an undiagnosed case of anemia was causing her to regularly get nose bleeds when bending over to field ground balls. This led to her making the difficult decision to leave the AAGPBL.
