A. H. Sommer was a graduate of Bradley University with a background in civil engineering and construction.  When he served as President of the Peoria Redwings (1946-1950), he was Director of the Keystone Steel & Wire Company, Chairman of the Southwestern Section of the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers, and a Director of the National Open Hearth Steel Committee.  In addition, he was a Director and member of the Budget Committee of the Peoria Community Chest and Council and a member of the Peoria Association of Commerce.
