    Shirley was one of the first four players signed to a contract by Phillip Wrigley. She was a dynamic ball player, dazzling the opposing teams. with her daring base running. She was on the first All-Star team in 1943, she also led the league in stolen bases and total runs scored that year.   After her playing days, Shirley was the Athletic Director at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois.
