
AAGPBL Board Director, Lois Youngen
AAGPBL Board Director, Lois Youngen was born in 1933 in the small town of Ragersville, Ohio, also the birthplace of Alta Weiss, a pioneer female pitcher in the early 1900’s. Growing up in LeRoy, Ohio (aka Westfield Center) she played baseball with the neighborhood boys and later softball with a town team. During her senior year in high school she went to spring training with the Fort Wayne Daisies, graduated from high school and became a Fort Wayne Daisy. She played in the League for four years, 1951-1954, for The Daisies, Comets, and Blue Sox. In 1953 Jean Faut made her famous as she caught Jean’s second perfect game, South Bend 4-Kalamazoo 0. She earned degrees from Kent State, Michigan State and her Ph.D. from Ohio State University in 1971. She retired after 36 years at the University of Oregon where she taught and also coached tennis, basketball and track and field before Title IX. She retired as Director of Physical Activity and Recreation Services. Lois was a past president of the Players Association has and has served as a Director for a number years. She is also a supporter of women’s baseball wherever it is played in the world!
