AAGPBL Board Secretary, Merrie Fidler

AAGPBL Board Secretary, Merrie Fidler is a California native and a retired high school English and P.E. Teacher, and she coached volleyball, basketball, softball, track and tennis.  As an athlete Merrie played interscholastic and intercollegiate volleyball, basketball, and softball, and she played on a city softball team into her mid-30s.  Merrie began researching the AAGPBL in the fall of 1971 and completed her Master’s Thesis on the League in 1976 at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.  In succeeding years, Merrie was able to attend the first AAGPBL Reunion in Chicago in 1982 and the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame’s first exhibit for Women in Baseball in 1988.  After retiring from teaching and coaching in 2003, Merrie became involved in AAGPBL committee work, updated and published her thesis in 2006, and was elected to the Players Association Board of Directors in 2007.  She has served as Board Secretary since 2008.
