The 2023 All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Reunion Was a Home Run!

Players, family, and fans of all generations gathered for the Annual reunion of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in Kenosha, WI from August 3-5, 2023. This year was extra special, celebrating the 80th Anniversary of the League!
The reunion included an opening reception at The Stella Hotel and Ballroom, Kenosha, WI, where Kenosha County Executive, Samantha Kerkman, presented the AAGPBL players with an Executive Proclamation proclaiming August 3-5, 2023, as Kenosha Comets And The All-American Girls Professional Baseball League Days. The Proclamation will make its way to a permanent home at the Pleasant Prairie, WI History Museum. There was also a tailgating style brunch hosted at the Stella, along with games and a special visit from Kenosha Kingfish mascot, Elvis. A quick bus trip down the road to the famous Simmons Field to cheer on the Women's USA National Team vs. American Girls Baseball (AGB) took place Friday afternoon. Followed by an evening game to honor the Players and a first pitch thrown out by AAGPBL Player, Mary Moore. Fans could also attend an autograph session with AAGPBL players and “A League of Their Own,” actresses at the games! You can read more about the games on the Kenosha Kingfish website, AGB website, Women's USA National Team website and the local newspaper, Kenosha News. Saturday was another full day with the Kenosha photo shoot at the historic Kenosha Electric Streetcar Barn. The community also took advantage to capture some great photos of the players, associates, Team USA and AGB players at the photo shoot. Lunch and an exciting lip-synch competition were held at Public Brewing, Kenosha, WI before all went back to the hotel for the banquet at The Stella Hotel and Ballroom.
The reunion culminated with a banquet featuring keynote speaker Jean Fruth-photographer, visual storyteller/Co-founder of Grassroots Baseball.  The evening also featured Misdee Wrigley-Miller, granddaughter of Phillip Wrigley. Phillip Wrigley was the founder of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.  Featured were also many presentations and awards. Two, "A League of Their Own," actresses were also in attendance to honor the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League players and their rich history.

MORE ABOUT REUNIONS

The first national AAGPBL Reunion was held in 1982 as a result of players and fans reconnecting through mailings and local mini-reunions.  Former player June Peppas, who co-owned a printing company, created a mailing list of players through the publication of a newsletter designed to locate players and culminate in a reunion.  With the help and energy of  South Bend bat girl Ruth Davis, that first national reunion was held in Chicago during the summer of 1982.  From the very beginning, the players welcomed fans and everyone who had a role in the league to their events.  That tradition, including public autograph sessions and media coverage, continues today.  Associate members and volunteers continue to make each reunion a memorable experience through planning and hard work.
