The EWBC is the proud host of the Baltimore/Washington Diamond Classic. The largest women’s baseball tournament in North America, the Diamond Classic features players and teams from across the U.S. and Canada and is the unofficial kick-off to the competitive women’s baseball tournament season. Last year’s event brought together nearly 150 women baseball players and featured teams from Ontario, Toronto, New England, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, and Indiana. This year’s Diamond Classic will take place May 23 to 26 in Baltimore, Maryland. We are honored this year to be welcoming Jeneane Lesko, former Grand Rapids Chick and current president of the All American Girls Professional Baseball League.

On May 23-26, 2014 the Eastern Women’s Baseball Conference will host the Ninth Annual Baltimore-Washington Diamond Classic women’s baseball tournament. Featuring teams and players from across the United States and Canada, the Diamond Classic has become the largest women’s baseball tournament in North America. This year’s event is anticipated to feature teams from New England, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Indiana, Toronto and Ontario.

The Diamond Classic tournament will be supporting and promoting a local charity during the tournament weekend. This year they will be supporting the Fisher House Foundation best known for a network of comfort homes where military and veterans' families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment locally at a near-by major major military and VA medical centers. Fisher House has provided 180,000 military families with over 5 million days of lodging ove the past 24 years.Hitter Womens baseball

Since 1989 the Eastern Women’s Baseball Conference (EWBC) has been providing opportunities for women and girls in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore metropolitan area to play baseball. These Girls of Summer play league games from May to September. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the EWBC is committed to promoting the sport of baseball for women and girls of all ages at the local, regional, national and international levels. As a part of the community, EWBC players routinely participate in events that promote providing opportunities in athletics for all. The league participates in the U.S. State Department’s Sports United Program, which uses sports to build relationships between youth of different countries and cultures; and co-hosts Co-Eds Battle Cancer, a co-ed charity baseball game which raises money for breast and prostate cancer related charities.

True to our league’s motto, Real Women. Real Baseball, EWBC players span all ages and all levels of experience. Playing side-by-side on any given field may be a member of the U.S. National team and a woman getting to play organized ball for the first time. Look up in the stands and you may hear screams of “Go Mom, strike her out!” from kids cheering on the softball star turned mother of two, or shouts of encouragement from a dad telling his daughter “nice try” on a diving attempt to spear a ball rocketed down the third base line.

The women of the EWBC come from all walks of life – from high school and college students, to teachers, doctors, lawyers, and scientists—the EWBC strives to provide any gal with a glove and a passion for the game to be able to put on a uniform and take the field.  In addition to local league play, the EWBC is the home of the DC Thunder, a travel team that represents the league in regional and national tournaments. The Thunder are winners of the 2012 Can-Am Invitational and were the 2009 runner’s up at the AWBF national championships. Over the years the team has competed in Kenosha, Wisconsin; Rockford, Illinois; Huntingburg, Indiana; Baltimore, Maryland; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Phoenix, Arizona; Ft. Myers, Florida; and Toronto, Canada
