By Vancouver Sun, B.C., Canada

Betty Berthiaume WickenWICKEN, Betty Ann Berthiaume, peacefully ended her earthly journey on April 25th, 2011, at Brock Fahrni Hospital in Vancouver at the age of 83 years. Born in Regina to Emillien and Edith (Evans) Berthiaume, Betty left home to play professional baseball in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1943. She married her childhood sweetheart, Bill, after he left the navy at the end of WWII, and they moved to BC, living in Nelson, Victoria, Williams Lake, and Vancouver. Their 60 year loving marriage lasted until Bill's death in 2005. Betty worked as a newspaper office manager and a school secretary for many years. Throughout her life, Betty was a devoted daughter, sister, friend, wife, mother and grandmother. Her lively spirit, humour and independence were matched by a deep and steady faith in God. She is loved and will be missed by her son Bill and his wife Maureen, her grandchildren Grace, Liam, Lucy and Ian, her sisters Marilyn Wilchuck and Beryl Froehler, many nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. The family wishes to express our appreciation to all the nurses and care staff at Brock Fahrni, who knew and cared for Betty. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 29th at 10 am at St. Mark's College chapel. "I will sing to the dawn at the end of my journey". Kearney Funeral Services604-736-0268
