Weise, Gertrude I. Ganote (2/17/1920 - 5/4/2006)

GERTRUDE I. "LEFTY GANOTE" WEISE, 86, of South Louisville, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Rockford Manor.

She was the former Gertrude Ganote, and a retired employee of Walgreen's. She was a professional baseball player, having played for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1944 and 1945. Her primary position was first base, pitching was secondary. She excelled in both and was the leading defensive first baseman in 1944.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Weise. She is survived by a daughter, three sisters, two step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, "Maggie."

A celebration of Gertrude's life was held at the Southern Home of Arch L. Heady & Son, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Louisville, Kentucky.
