Sheffield, Lois Marie (6-15-1933 - 11/17/2014)

Lois Marie Sheffield, 81, of Wellington, Ohio died at home Monday, November 17, 2014.  She was born June 15, 1933, in Wellington, to the late Robert Avery and Leona Lucille (nee Sugaski) Sheffield.

Lois was a 1951 graduate of Brighton High School, recipient of “The Babe Ruth Medal” and was her class Valedictorian.    Baseball was a passion for Lois.  As a young lady, she played short stop in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League for the South Bend Blue Sox.  Lois also played for the Oberlin Blue Flames.  Her love of baseball extended beyond her time as a pro-ball player; she was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians and also enjoyed riding her bike down to watch ball games at the Wellington Rec Park. Lois worked for the Troxel Company, Rockwell Industries and delivered the Elyria Chronicle for several years. 

Lois is survived by her brother, her sister, nieces and nephews,and many great-nieces and nephews.

Friends and family were received Saturday, November 29, 2014, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of a memorial mass at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 512 North Main Street, Wellington, beginning at 10:30 a.m., with Father James Reymann officiating.  A private family burial took place at Pittsfield East Cemetery at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lois’s memory may be made to Well-Help, 127 Park Place, Wellington, OH  44090 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
