Alice HooverAlice R. "Sniffles" Hoover, 86, former baseball player of Reading, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in the Reading Hospital.

Born in Riverdale, Berks Co. on October 27, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Charles S. and Ethel N. (Shuman) Hoover.

Alice was employed for 33 years with the former Wide Awake Shirt Co. Inc., Reading, which is now Elbeco Inc., Reading. Later in her career, she was last employed with AT&T Reading Works for over 15 years, retiring on March 17, 1994.

Alice was a baseball player of the Kauffman Maids, Piker Maids and 17th Ward softball teams in Reading. She also played in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in Fort Wayne, Indiana, with the Fort Wayne Daisies; this league was portrayed in the movie "A League of Their Own." All players of the league are enshrined at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Alice was also a Marble Champ of the Northmont School in 1941.

She was a life member of the AAGPBL Players Association, a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and a 55 year member of the AAA Reading-Berks.

Alice was the loving sister of Rita . . ., Barbara . . . , Russell . . . , and Dianna . . . and her husband, Leslie. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2014 in Auman's Inc. Funeral Home, 390 W. Neversink Rd., Reading, PA 19606. Family and friends are invited to gather before services in the funeral home on Monday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Alice will be inurned in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reading [PA].
